Mickey Thompson Tyres

What’s so good about Mickey Thompson tyres?

We’re not one to shout out - much less sell a product unless we believe in them - and that means taking it through it’s paces to see what it’s made of. Owner of Mickey Tyre and Auto, Rick took his Mickeys on an 8000km trip through the Territory and Gulf Country on all sorts of terrain. Here’s his verdict on the MTZ P3s:

Rocks to sand, mud to some of the most vicious corrugations I've ever experienced and was really impressed how the MTZ P3s performed in all conditions. Love my Mickeys. Hope they last as long as my last set.

He’s not alone.
Top of Down Under's Penny Wells has been travelling remote Australia for 17 years. A few years years ago she bolted on her first set of Mickey Thompson tyres, and the rest is history. Check out some action from all over Australia, that proves Mickey Thompson tyres can take whatever terrain you can throw at them.

How often should I check my tyre pressures?

At least once a month - and before long trips. A good habit is to check them when you’re at the petrol station. Tyre inflation pressure increases when tyres are hot. So the best time to check tyre pressure is when the tyres are cold (driven less than 1.5km). It’s always handy to keep a spare too.

What should I look for when inspecting my tyres?

Driving with damaged tyres can be dangerous so it’s worth checking them regularly. Use this quick list when inspecting your tyres:

  • Look for shallow tread (less than 1.6mm tread depth at any part of the tread face)
  • Foreign objects wedged into the tread
  • Damage to the tread or sidewall eg. cracks, holes, bulges
  • Make sure valve caps are still on all tyres

Why do I need to rotate my tyres?

Each tyre on your car carries a different amount of weight. So they wear out at different rates. To keep your car in good condition, and for a smooth, even, comfortable drive, rotate your tyres to keep the tyres even.

Your tyres will be rotated according to your logbook as a general guide, which is usually 10,000km or 6 months. But it’s worth checking it in between so you can get them rotated as soon as you see signs they’re wearing out unevenly.

How often should I check my wheel alignment?

At least once a month. Getting your car serviced regularly will give you a more thorough check every 6 months or 10,000kms. Look out for uneven or irregular wear. These will help you get the most tread wear from your tyres, and keep you and your passengers safe.

If your tyres show uneven or irregular wear, it could point to troubles with your inflation pressure, misalignment, out of balance or suspension problems. It’s better to pick these up quickly as you could lose control of your car - and cause serious injuries - if these issues are ignored.
